Adele’s ‘Skyfall’ wins Oscar. The James Bond soundtrack was engineered by Gotham’s Matt Wiggins

Last night the Adele Award Machine broke through yet another barrier when ‘Skyfall’, her theme tune to the latest Bond film of the same name won an Oscar for ‘Best Original Song’ at the 2013 Academy Awards at Hollywood’s Dolby Theatre. It is the third major award Adele has won for ‘Skyfall’ this year, the others coming at The Golden Globes and last week’s BRIT Awards.

Adele co-wrote the song with its producer, Paul Epworth (pictured with Adele collecting last night’s award). It was engineered by Gotham’s very own Matt Wiggins, who we are extremely proud of. It is the first Oscar a Bond film has won for 47 years, and the first ever for a Bond soundtrack. Adele also gave a dazzling live performance of the song in front of a packed Dolby audience.

Congratulations to Adele, Paul, Matt and everyone else involved with the unprecedented success of ‘Skyfall’. May the trophies keep coming!

Charlie Hugall wins Breakthrough Engineer of the Year at the 2013 MPG Awards

It gives us great pleasure to announce that our very own Charlie Hugall won the Breakthrough Engineer of the Year prize at last night’s MPG Awards 2013. Charlie has had a prolific year working with artists such as Lucy Rose, Swim Deep, Mahalia, Dog Is Dead, Crystal Fighters, Delilah, Florence and the Machine, 2:54, Slow Moving Millie and many more great artists, and this award is fully deserved.

Matt Wiggins in Adele Golden Globe Award win for ‘Best Original Song’

We’ve had a great start to the year with news that Adele’s ‘Skyfall’, the theme tune to the latest James Bond film of the same name, won the ‘Best Original Song’ award at the weekend’s Golden Globes. The track was engineered by Gotham’s Matt Wiggins, produced by Paul Epworth and co-written by Epworth and Adele.

Congratulations to Matt and everyone else involved in the making of ‘Skyfall’. May it be the first of many honours for roster of talent this year…

James Bond Theme ‘Skyfall’

The new Bond theme ‘Skyfall’, produced and co-written by long time producer Paul Epworth and performed by Grammy award winner Adele was engineered by our very own Matt Wiggins. The track which went to number one in the iTunes charts within 10 hours of being released oozes ‘Bond’, with big strings, big vocals and drama. The film which premiered last night is said to be the best bond film yet and we reckon the theme tune is worthy of that review as well.

Jake Bugg’s Self Titled Debut Album ‘Jake Bugg’ , Straight to Number One

The hotly tipped Jake Bugg debut album has shot into number one this week. Produced and mixed by Mike Crossey at the Motor Museum, Liverpool. Mike’s previous work includes the Artic Monkeys, Tribes, Foals and more recently Ben Howard. The album was also mastered at our mastering studio 24-96 by Robin Schmidt, previously mastering for Emeli Sandé, Mumford and Sons and The Black Keys to name but a few.

18-year-old Jake was born and raised in Clifton, and though too young to remember in full the attack of Brit pop in the 90′s is clearly heavily influenced by the likes of Oasis, the La’s and hints of lyrical genius not dissimilar to The Libertines. Taking the album away from the stereotype of larger drinking that, Brit pop so often has, Jake works through his tracks with an element of 60′s class, mirroring the likes of Dylan and Donovan. Its hard to believe listening through all the trials and tribulations in the album that this wasn’t written by a man in his eighties, let alone a boy who has barely left school.

Pete Hofmann in Top 20 UK Producers of the Year

Gotham are proud to announce that Pete Hofmann has reached the Top 20 best-selling UK producers of the year, based on album sales as published in Music Week. Pete and co-producer Richard X had a massive year thanks to the success of Will Young’s number 1 album, Echoes, featuring the top 10 single, ‘Jealousy’. Pete And Richard finished in 16th place above the likes of Mark Ronson, Bernard Butler, Jacknife Lee and Noel Gallagher in the top 50 producers list.

Lucy Rose – ‘Like I Used To’, Produced by Charlie Hugall

he debut album ‘Like I Used To’ from Lucy Rose was produced in full by Charlie Hugall, previous work; Florence and The Machine, Delilah and Ed Sheeran.

The album is clearly a diary of emotions Lucy went through in what seems a rocky relationship. She expresses herself through her lyrics and gentle folk vocals, accompanied by softly perfect production and simple guitars. Hints of early Laura Marling definitely shine through, which can only be a compliment. Of course, there’s a strong sense of Bombay Bicycle club, but that may just be due to Lucy being used on a number of their tracks before now.

Album best listened too when curled up on a sofa whilst the wet and windy weather continues to soak the UK outside. A definite, relaxing set of melodies.

Album released on the 24th September.

This album is a clear progression of maturity, moving away from the ‘tinkly’ guitars of their debut and experimenting with 80’s inspired synths, M83-type production and New Order style electronic textures and disco rhythms . Get ready to put your dancing shoes on.
